Calling plugins.busy.prepare() "destroys" date mask behaviour

Description
We have a simple form with a date with this format:
dd-MM-yyyy|mask
The wanted behavior is that a user sees the mask and "overrides" it. So when clicking in an empty field, the mask is shown, so the user knows what entry is expected.
Once we call
plugins.busy.prepare()
this behavior is lost. The mask is never shown.
